Why can’t God annihilate the evildoers instead of imposing eternal punishment?
Why can’t hell be a short-term punishment instead of an eternal one?

3.0 Description of Hell
Rev. 20:1 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain.
Revelation 20:7 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison.
Mt. 5:25–26 “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. 26 Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.
Matt 8:12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
2 Pet. 2:17 These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them.
Matt 25:41 Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might.
4.0 Inhabitants of Hell
Two groups will be in hell.
2 Peter 2:4,9 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell…
2 Thess. 1:8 He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
Matt. 25:41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
5.0 The Punishment in Hell
Matt. 25:46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
Rev. 19:20 (NASB) And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone.
Rev 20:10 (NASB) And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
Luke 16:23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.
Luke 16::22-24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
Rev. 2:11 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who is victorious will not be hurt at all by the second death.
Luke 16:27-28 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
Matt. 5:22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.
Luke 16:26. between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
